you lost me at “species identity”. 

we are all humans, like it or not. you are not a vampire, elf, wolf, alien, or whatever the hell else you wish you were. 

and i know i’m gonna get hate for this, but after looking up the definitions, i think a lot of those sexual/romantic attraction types are unnecessary. Homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, and asexual are enough, thanks.

same for the gender identities. It’s just a bit excessive. why do we have to break things down into so goddamn many categories? 

We break things down into so many categories because we’re finally beginning to realize that more than two or three categories exist.

How is it excessive to acknowledge other kinds of people who exist? If this thing only included male and female as the gender identities, then I wouldn’t even be on it. Do you know how much it fucking sucks to be constantly told you don’t exist and no one wants to acknowledge you? It’s a lot! And maybe you don’t think checking off M or F is really a big deal, but for some people it really is, and it feels really shitty to be presented, constantly, with that strict binary choice when your answer is neither of them.

So what, exactly, is wrong with having your gender identity acknowledged? Why is it excessive to admit that yeah, there are people who aren’t in that strict male/female binary? 

What’s wrong with acknowledging more than just those four sexualities, too? The spectrum of sexuality and romance is huge and we’ve carved it up into these strict and unwieldy parts that still leave out swathes of human experience. What, exactly, is wrong with trying to fix that? What’s wrong with finally talking to people and listening to them when they tell you about their experiences and realizing that what we have doesn’t fit those experiences, and coming up with something that does?

I see a lot of people saying we’re getting too tolerant or too open-minded or something, but I want to know how you can really be that? At what point have you decided to listen to too many people about their personal identities instead of brushing them off because you personally don’t get it? At what point have you gone too far in making sure you don’t make people feel really shitty because you keep saying they don’t exist?

I don’t really think you can.

I mean, think about it like this. You’re in a group of people, and you’re all naked, so you go into a clothing store. There are clothes there to fit only a few kinds of people, though, so there are a bunch of people who don’t have any clothes that fit them. They can either remain naked and try to find a place that does have clothes that fit, or try to squeeze into clothes that are four sizes too small and shaped completely wrong for them and see how long they can stand being in those ill-fitting clothes.

Saying we’re getting too excessive with identifying sexualities and gender identities is like saying that those people need to just put up with their clothes that don’t fit, because it would be too excessive to make clothes that fit everyone.

And if your clothes do fit, why do you even care? It literally has no effect on you if other people get their clothes or not, so why on earth do you feel the need to lobby against it or act like it’s ridiculous for them to even want it? Your clothes aren’t going to be taken away if they get ones that fit. All that happens is more people are happy. What’s wrong with that?

I’m not saying that male and female are the only ones that should exist. I’m just saying that having so many different categories is a bit much. Honestly, a lot of it, I’ve noticed, is not so much people that are legitimately uncomfortable with the binary choices, but people just wanting to be special snowflakes and looking for some way to say “LOOK AT ME INTERNET, I’M DIFFERENT.”

And the “species identity” thing is still ridiculous and i refuse to take anyone seriously if they tell me they aren’t human.

I have so many problems with this but I am just going to chill here and be genderqueer as fuck. Yepp, that’s what I’m gonna do. PSYCHE. You have no idea how many times I’ve gotten the “Oh they just want to do it to be unique or quirky or exciting.” NOPE FUCK THAT. I never felt like a girl or a boy and for the longest time I thought there was something wrong with me, or that I was the only one. Then I found all of these different identities and was so excited that I might actually fit into one. Kids who wanna be cool or special will just say that they’re bisexual (not all bisexuals are raging morons though,) they wouldn’t intentionally put them selves in a situation where they can’t fit into the binary that society has laid out for them.

Wow, okay! I definitely had to look some (most) of those terms up, and it seems like there are a lot of very small, very particular differences. Like, the difference between colors. Something might look red, but actually it’s red-orange-yellow (or something) and that small difference might have a pretty big effect on say, the look of a room or whether or not that outfit makes you look super sexy or super awful the day of a big event. ‘Sides, when it comes to something like personal identity, too much is probably better than too little.
